Nixie watches seem to have been growing in popularity lately, these new Nixie watch models use unique indicator lamps IN-16, IV-9 and IV-3A which were manufactured in Ukraine.
The Era model is pictured above but they come in three different models – the Nixoid, Glower and Era, they are chargeable via usb and have silicon straps.
Nixie tubes are an old electronic device used to show digits. Resembling Neon signs they work in a similar way, inside a sealed glass bulb that’s filled with neon are wires forming 10 decimal digits, arranged in a stack, one in front of the other. One well known fan of Nixie watches is Steve Wozniak who can be seen wearing one sometimes.
Ukrainian Nixie lamps are apparently the most sturdy because they were developed for military use, the ones in these Nixie watches are new but sourced from old Ukrainian military warehouses
For the development, 10 prototypes were assembled and tested before these final versions were released and these will be delivered in February.
The battery lasts more than 20 days of normal use from a single charge and more than 2 months in standby mode. If the battery level decreases to zero the watch will still maintain the correct time once charged again.
ABS plastic has been used for the watch cases, it doesn’t rust and is unaffected by acids, each watch is hand made including the sanding priming and painting, making each one unique.
