Today we are looking at a couple of unusual watches by Ollivier Savéo.
Ollivier has worked as a jeweler for many prestigious companies over his twenty-five year career and with watchmakers Roger Dubuis, Gay Frères and Quinting.
He was awarded the “Meilleur Ouvrier de France” prize in 2000, this was in recognition of his skill at creating works of art in precious metals.
Since then he has transitioned into the world of watchmaking setting up a brand under his own name; Ollivier Savéo watches.
Two particularly striking examples of his work are his Petroleum and Speed F1 models which we will take a look at.
The Ollivier Savéo Petroleum.
This watch (pictured above) was designed with owners of oil refineries and oil groups in mind and with the intent of attracting customers from the oil producing regions.
The bezel has a design based on the connecting pieces between the cylinders of oil pipelines and there is a small capsule that can be filled with petroleum placed at the 6 o’clock position, overall the piece has a somewhat steampunk appearance.
Measuring 44mm x 41mm x 14mm (excluding the crown) a Swiss made self-winding movement sourced from Selita is surrounded by a case using 18 Karat luxurious pink gold.
Oscillating at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour the Calibre SW300 features 26-jewels.
A limited edition of 33 pieces the Petroleum features black Louisiana alligator strap with matching double folding 18-karat pink gold clasp. Prices start at: CHF 80,000 (approximately $86,492).
Ollivier Savéo Speed F1.
This model uses design cues from the automotive industry and is “decorated and surrounded by a scenery inspired by luxurious sports rims and the universe of cars in general, a see-through metal rim, placed on the side, is there for featuring red hands.”
Like the Petroleum model it features a wrap around sapphire crystal giving a greater view of the fascinating inner mechanics of the watch.
The black and red colour scheme echoes the colours used in formula one car designs and it displays the hours, minutes and seconds thanks to the automatic skeleton movement and features a black PVD coating.
The Ollivier Savéo Speed F1 is a limited edition of 33 pieces.
