The new Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon Skeleton Watch Calibre 9461MC will officially be introduced at the SIHH, despite its rather long-winded name its actually been reduced in terms of real estate.

The Cartier Astrotourbillon Skeleton uses an open worked version of their caliber MC 9451 which took 5 years to develop for use in the original Astrotourbillon, Cartiers signature tourbillon watch. The caliber is suspended inside the 47 mm diameter case and a tourbillon that rotates every 60-seconds and appears to glide round the dial in empty space, completing a revolution of the dial every one minute and also acting as seconds indicator thanks to an arrow attached to the tourbillon cage.

The Skeletonizing of the watch has whittled it away to a minimalist state; the dial has virtually gone  all that reamins are the iconic Cartier XII and VI numerals which hold the movement in place.

Made of 18ct white gold the dial readability is heightened through the use of contrasting blued hands. It features the iconic Cartier crown and a power reserve e of 48 hours.

Limited of 100 pieces in white gold, 20 pieces in platinum with diamond bezel and case, and 5 pieces in platinum with a diamond studded bracelet, with a retail price of €120,000 before taxes. More at Cartier.
