Magellan are a Swiss brand named after the famous navigator who proved that the world was round by circumnavigating it. Their 1521 series -named after the date of Magellan’s historical discovery- have unusually high watch crystals and dials with different types of decoration. Their latest called the Magelluna features the surface of the moon.
Magellan Magelluna Watch is animated by an exclusive automatic movement based on ETA 2893, with hours, minutes, seconds indicated. The case measures 43.5mm and is made out of PVD coated steel. Measuring 19mm in height its overall shape brings to mind a flying saucer.
The minute and hours hands have been uniquely shaped to work with the round surfacing of the dial. The depiction of the surface of the moon is nicely detailed and has been rendered by hand making each one a unique piece.
The design of the dials for the 1521 series of watches have been designed to compliment the dome shaped crystals, pictured below is another from the series, the 1521 NH (Northern Hemisphere)
